Sonic-Club Forums _ General Discussion _ I Am The Kintabor

Posted by: Megaxel Jan 11 2004, 06:36 PM

If you take a looksie in your Sonic 1 manuals, or rare Sonic X-Treme mini-books, or happen to have the right issue of the Archie comic series, it is said to the audience that Eggman's last name is Kintabor. So in Sonic Adventure 2 why are his relatives called "Robotnik?"

Also, what is his first name? We have Ovi, Ivo and Julian. The Archie comics say he was Julian Kintabor from the House of Ivo, but Sonic 1 manual and Sonic X-Treme say he was Ovi Kintabor with no Julian whatsoever. And in the SatAM cartoon series he is reffered to in Episode 26 as "Julian" by Snively.

Thirdly, Sonic began calling Dr. Robotnik "Eggman" as an insult. Why, in Sonic Adventure 2, did he start calling himself that? Up until then he only called himself Robotnik. But now he calls himself Dr. Eggman.

So what IS his name? Lets take a look at all the possible combinations:
Julian Kintabor from the house of Ivo
Julian Kintabor from the house of Ovi
Julian Robotnik from the house of Ivo
Julian Robotnik from the house of Ovi
Ivo Kintabor from the house of Julian
Ovi Kintabor from the house of Julian
Ivo Robotnik from the house of Julian
Ovi Robotnik from the house of Julian

Who IS the Eggman? That's what he is. Who IS the Eggman? Who has the "master plan"? YOU DECIDE.

There are lots of different names he has been called:

Dr. Eggman (Sonic Anime/Sonic The Movie/Sonic Aventure/Sonic X)

he is also called Dr. Eggman in some of the new comics I think, but most people simply call him Eggman (i'm pretty sure).

Dr. Robotnik is the original name most of us in the US used to know him by, it was used in the older games and stuff mostly, also called that in the older Sonic cartoons like AoSTH, SatAM, Sonic Underground. Commonly called 'buttnik' or something by Sonic in the SatAM Sonic series, lol.

These are the only name combinations I know about:

First Names: Julian, Robotnik, Eggman (I know those last 2 are probably last names, but they are sometimes used as first names or said alone)
Middle names: Ivo
Last Names: Robotnik, Eggman, Kintobor

that's about all I know, from what I can tell him name is different depending on the Sonic series, and sometimes the middle name Ivo isn't used at all.

There's also very little collaboration between the different aspects of the Sonic Universe. There are entire webpages devoted to why Sonic is blue. (I found them when I was looking for Sonic Championship on google tongue.gif )

I've looked over every aspect of Robotnik's possible names and decided that he was born with the name Ovi Julian Kintabor and began calling himself Ivo Robotnik after the "accident" mentioned in your handy-dandy Sonic X-Treme booklets. Snivley still calls him Julian, though. So my theory is mud, and, as with ANY Sonic theory, is subject to interpretation on a fan-by-fan basis, so you can ignore this entire thread.

do NOT colorate the comics with the games.

Early Games: Called Dr. Ivo Robotnik
Adventure 1: Known as Dr. Robotnik Mocked as Eggman
Adventure 2 and on: Called Dr. Eggman, technicly Dr. Robotnik

But there inlies the problem. I'm trying to learn some basic game programming to make a game called Sonic Universe; the entire first part of the game is going to be devoted to, you guessed it, good old Robotnik. I'm trying to figure out exactly what to call him so as not to tick of Sonic fans; the segment is tentatively titled Ovi's Legacy. I'm working on pencil & paper level layouts and I'm trying to learn how to use a program called GameMaker to program the game.

depends on the time frame of your game.
